You have a career dream that you would like to pursue. But it will bring you on a path of uncertainty. How will you feed yourself? And how will you put food on the table for your family?
So instead of taking a step of faith towards that direction, you fall back on the security of what you already know.
Maybe you go back to that old job that you desperately wanted to leave. Or you give up and settle for something else. Something that – at least for now – seems more secure and promises a stable financial reward, even if it might not be much.
You tell yourself, it’s not the right time now. Maybe sometime in the future. But you have kids now and you need the cash.
The problem is, will there be a better time in the future?
Your expenses are not going to decrease, you know.
From singlehood to marriage, to starting a family and watching your children grow up. These life stages increasingly demand more of your finances. And then when you grow old… will you still have the energy?
I’m not saying that we should all leap without having a safety net below. Quitting one job without lining up another gig is not for everyone. After all, jumping off a plane without a parachute on your back is not wise at all.
But there are many ways, including using your main job to fund your side-gig as you pursue your dream.
All I’m saying is that there is not going to be a better time for you to move towards what you dream of doing. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. But you’ve missed that already. Are you going to miss another 20 years?
So when are you going to start working to realise that dream of yours? If not now, then when?
